Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from therapy?
The first session is usually an introduction session. We discuss what has brought you to therapy, relevant history, and goals. Once I have the background information and an idea of what you’d like to accomplish in treatment, I provide psychoeducational material and assign exercises (worksheets, behavioral activities) for you to practice at home.ÂHow often should I be meeting with you?
I typically meet with patients once every 2-4 weeks. I find this frequency to be the best balance for giving patients the opportunity to practice skills and process what was discussed during the appointment.
What does a psychotherapy session with a psychologist cost?
Sessions are billed at the rate recommended by the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA). As of March 6, 2023, BCPA increased the suggested rate to $235 per 50-minute session.
Are your appointments covered under my extended health plan?
As each health plan is different, I would recommend you check with your insurance carrier regarding coverage for registered psychologists.
Do you offer online or phone appointments?
I offer limited in-person appointments, as many of my patients find it more convenient to attend sessions remotely. I work with individuals across British Columbia and Alberta via Zoom and telephone.
Can you refill my prescription?
This is a common question I receive from patients. As a psychologist, I am unable to provide prescriptions or refills. I would recommend contacting your family physician, psychiatrist, and/or pharmacist for medication-related questions and needs.
Are appointments covered by MSP?
MSP does not cover appointments with registered psychologists practicing privately.Â
How many sessions will I need?
Length of treatment depends on a number of factors, which makes it difficult to predict number of sessions needed. I am happy to create a treatment plan to fit your unique needs.Â
Do you accept insurance?
I’m able to direct bill many insurance companies, please contact me for additional information.Â
